So how was YOUR day?

Unread post by rickf » September 7th, 2020, 5:03 pm

I had to drive 250 miles to an auction site this morning to pick up some stuff I won on an online auction. Almost home and all of a sudden truck will not shift out of first gear without letting off throttle. Ok, It is still driving ok as long as I do the two step to get it going so I make it home and go top put it in park................ Nope, that ain't happening. Physically will not go. So I figure these fabulous roads around here tweaked my linkage and I go under to check it out. Pull it apart and nope, it will not go in part at the trans. This is starting to not look good. Fluid is clean and smells good, not burnt. So I know it is mechanical. Figure possibly the nut fell off the shifter inside so the pan has to come off. OF COARSE the wind has to came up just as the fluid starts to come out! I was trying to save the fluid for reuse since it is 8.00 a quart synthetic! Do NOT need dust and dirt blown into it. So I manage to keep the fluid clean and get down to the last couple bolts and I have my hand up there holding the pan up and take out the last bolts and all I hear is a bunch of stuff sliding around in the pan. This is NOT good!

. That is, or was, the second gear band actuator. It apparently could not stand up to the super servo I installed several years ago. That little chip is aluminum and probably part of the case so I will need to drop the valve body and look deeper into it for more carnage. I am not seeing what is holding it from going into park yet. It was still draining down the convertor and the wind was kicking up dust so I put the pan back up and will go after it tomorrow after it is done draining and hopefully the wind stops.

Not that kind of trouble on a cruising road trip. 😬. Took a Jeep ride around neighborhood. Finished the day with grilled burgers on the patio. Had FaceTime with grandsons. They start back to school today. A much better day than rick experienced

Too hot around here to babysit the grill. Took the youngest to visit the grandparents for a rice and gravy beef roast Then we took a ride in the late afternoon. He's got the hang of working the pedals now... on to shifting gears next.

A2 with A1 grill. Nice looking truck.

My day was taking the A2 and trailer to a camp / cookout about 10 min from my house. I debated taking the trailer as I wasn't sure if any of the kids there would be interested in a ride. You never know with kids today. Well, they had a blast. Look at those smiles!

Dang Rick - that bites...

Truck meaning your M1008 or civi truck?

Last week, I put a NOS 24v starter on my 85 M1008 laying in the dirt, under my equipment shed - was NOT a fun job... :x

My M151A2 and 416 are parked in my back shop as I continue this "never-ending" house build... 8)

That was my Dodge dually civvy truck with the Cummins diesel. The M1008 would have been easy compared to that beast! Those starters are no fun at all, I have done many of them since we had several of those trucks in the fleet at the college I worked at. Starters and flywheels.

Rick needs a Gama Goat....or a DUKW. That will put the trouble he's having with the ol' Dodge into perspective! 😂

One of the best things about the internet is you can always find someone who has had it worse than you.

How is that worse? Any landing you can walk away from is a good landing. And since they are all standing around the B17 obviously it was a good landing in friendly territory. Even better. My bet is that they trucked in another engine to replace the one that appears to be missing and some other bits and pieces and flew it out of there. Those were some really tough airplanes!!!

Well, Black snakes aren't poisonous but they can be a bit aggressive and the bite does hurt. Nice hot summer days I would think a halftrack would be a perfect hiding spot for a rattler though.
Here is a black snake that decided to stop in for breakfast when we were at the Graves Rally a few years ago. At first he came out behind the RV and I convinced him to go back in the weeds and then a few minutes later he popped out in the front and he really did not want to go back as you can see. It doesn't look it but he was about 6 1/2 feet long. You look at the first pic and follow the black ribbon and he just goes on forever. I personally did not care where he went but the wife was in a panic and the dog was infinitely curious. She had never dealt with anything bigger than a 4 foot garter snake. And they don't have fangs.
