What do you REALLY think of this site?

Unread post by rickf » April 16th, 2020, 11:54 am

I am running a poll to find out just what people think of this web site. What do you like, what don't you like.
I am going to paste a copy of a PM I received with the permission of the person I got it from. All reference to whom it came from are removed so do not ask, it doesn't matter. The gist of the conversation is there. Now, after getting a pm like that I have to think a couple of things, First is, this is the only second complaint I have gotten about the signing in. Second is where are all these other people I hear about that are having trouble? Where are all the other people that are unhappy about the site? If I don't know about the issues I can't address them. And lastly is the cost issue, do you all want to go to a subscription type site? The extra money has to come from somewhere unless someone wants to donate.

My problem with the 838 is very simple.
I can only stay signed in for two times and it forces my to re sign in again.
Then I get the foolish statement that I have exceeded my trys and asks me to answer the captcha.
The whole thing is a meaningless exercise!
The solution is beyond your “ paygrade and mine!
Activity on the site has diminished Dramatically to the point that it isn't worth the trouble.
The problems are relating to obsolete screwed up software and your inability to finance things.
If there is a silver bullet out there then let it be known!
While you may like to think that I am the only one experiencing the problem I am sure there are others being frustrated.
This is not a personal issue between us and never should be. Don't want to add any “drama”By you not responding to a post of mine on another forum.
Maybe its time for you and Jim to consider the site’s viability

i have never had sign in problems. even though circumstances forced me to sell my M151 a few years back, i still visit fairly often. i enjoy seeing the posts, and once in a great while, i have something to contribute, usually from my experience in the trades, and knowledge gained during my own restoration, and the time i spent repairing them while in uniform. i hope the site remains active. nothing bad to say about it at all. feel free to leave my identifiers visible.

No sign-in issues whatsoever.

I don’t post as much as I used to but that is simply to the fact that other project/cars right now have higher priorities than my 151.

I read most of the stuff however still.

No sign in problems for me. Nothing to complain about. Wealth of info here. May I ask how much is hosting per year?

This is "The Best" M-151/g-838 site out there period! Only thing it needs is a on board Photo app. If someone joins and don't like the way its operated they are free to go elsewhere. Sorry if this offends anyone. As for cost?? there "was" a donation link on the home page, someone would remind everyone every year to kick in if they could.

I've been a member here since it all started and have never had a problem with signing into this site unless it was done. That being said, I visit every chance I get along with the other forums. I don't log into the site every time unless I see a topic of interest or if I can possibly help answer a question. I have joined several FB groups but those groups will never replace these types of forums. Those that are having issues logging in might need to look into the browsers they are using. I use Google chrome for everything but at work there are some sites I have to access and they don't play well with chrome so I have to use explorer. It could be your firewall or antivirus on your PC not allowing you access. I'm not an IT guy but I've learned enough from my IT person about updates screwing things up and going back to security settings to undo what the update did. FB groups are good because the younger folks hang out there because its the new trend. I can tell by most of the questions posted there that they have never been to a real forum or don't even know about them. Keep up the good work Rick and you thought retirement was going to be easy.

I don't have any sign in issues, could be the browser they are using. I have found just about everything I need to know here and have received parts from members I have been looking for at reasonable prices. No complaints here, good job.

I check the site every day and very rarely had a problem logging in. The site has been less active but I for one can not work on my MV projects right now. This is due to the weather in the northeast and my focus is on being safe. I celebrate 70 this Saturday, which puts me in a high risk category. I can not work to much by my self on the heavy stuff, so projects take a long time. I learn from every posting and the site needs to stay alive.

There was an upgrade a year or so ago. I could log on dead easy one day, then struggle to log on the day after. IIRC, Rick sorted out that problem speedily. No problems since.
This is a great site.... I posted a eulogy last year which is still around on this board. I recommend this site to owners and potential owners who contact me..... the sheer range of questions along with the quality and depth of answers still amazes me.....and of course, for anyone who wants to study the tech manuals.... many of them are here...for free. I'm not saying that the G503 board isn't good... it is....but there's a place for both boards and long may both continue.

Kind regards....

This is the kind of information that is helpful to me! Tanker, do you use a Mac by any chance? They are what seem to be having the problems.

Hi Rick
I am happy with the way the site works/operates. Being down here in the south pacific, there are very few M151 in this part of the world so not a lot of knowledge and or parts available here for these vehicles. Hence my reliance on the knowledge and experience of others on this site to complete my restoration project.

Rick
Been using a MAC with Safari browser since I joined in November 2013 without incident. Up loading photos seems to be a hurdle for some....I haven't tried. The site is an irreplaceable resource as are its contributors! Thanks for asking us about our observations
