Who's working on their Mutt
During this tragic nightmare and being locked down, I hope we are getting out to the garage and getting some work down, amid the honey do chores that never stop piling up.
Time to show Pictures guys.

Re: Who's working on their Mutt
Working radio stuff now...I was a pathfinder in the Army, so i'm adding a VRC-83 ground to air package to my MUTT.
Just finished electrical...
Recently did seatbelts and ROPS padding...the actual covers for the ROPS padding coming soon (Ripstop cotton/poplin like an old pair of OG-107 fatigues)
Dismantled pedal cluster and replaced master cylinder and brake light switch a couple weeks back...
And just generally trying to stay busy, safe and upbeat...
Hang tough, gents. Watch out for each other!

Building a new spare engine for my son.
Realizing how many parts are missing and I have to replace before I am done.
None the less its fun when you are imprisoned !

Re: Who's working on their Mutt
Everyone has been fighting me for years go sign up on Facebook. I dunno. Might have to.
Re: Who's working on their Mutt
I will say this, social sites such as facebook do have certain benefits in these trying times. My wife is prompting me to check out local restaurants who, through social media, have tried to make people aware that they have diversified to become take-out food (prepared) AND take-out food in the form of groceries. These are places I would know nothing about because I have no connections to any social media sites. So I grudgingly admit social media does have its benefits.
Our local grocery chain (HEB) is a powerhouse when it comes to supplying stuff we all need but it has the unfortunate effect of compressing a lot of humanity into one area, despite their curbside pickup system. I think we have a responsibility to keep our friends and neighbor's restaurants and other businesses going, if we are able. So I'm spreading my shopping around a bit even if it costs a dollar or two more because there will come a day when this business is all over.
Cheers,
TJ

The main issue with F/B is people getting all your personal info. If you think it's private, it's not.
Re: Who's working on their Mutt
Mutthunter, what digital thing is that, to operate your lights on a Mutt ? I saw that same thing in the early teens, but never in a mutt.

Re: Who's working on their Mutt
Its official nomenclature and NSN is: MASTER VEHICLE LIGHT SWITCH LED PUSH BUTTON M998 5930-01-491-989. They are what started being installed in HMMWVs a few years back. Once the fight in Iraq transitioned from dismounts fighting in direct engagements to one that was largely vehicle borne (at least in the conventional forces) and kept guys on the MSRs all the time going back and forth between basecamps, etc, fighting with your light switch in the dark after somebody hits an IED was/is problematic.
Its a much easier design to use, with the same functionality as the old switch. No harness change required...it screws right in. My fave part isn't that its a push button design, but that you can quickly look down and at one glance determine what lights you have activated...and there's an "all off" button that allows you to shut everything down quickly.
I know that when we started using them, the number of dead batteries caused by knucklehead paratroopers leaving their black out lights or dash lights on went down to near zero.
My MUTT won't win any awards for all original equipment...in fact, the only thing on my MUTT that's 45 years old is the body itself. If it was safety related in some way, i replaced it. If it was electrical, i ended up replacing it after chasing electrical ghosts long enough for constructive troubleshooting credit from any accredited community college. This light switch was something that i thought the Army got right when it was implemented, and i wanted one for my jeep.
One last thing: Do NOT pay what most folks are asking for them. They are getting ubiquitous enough for pricing to come way down...just shop around. I got a brand new one for half what most people want for them. I'm running the new HMMWV LED lights too...and love them. They are still priced too high, but you can shop around. Don't look for "M151 parts"...look for backward compatible HMMWV parts...prices are way lower.
