Replacement Battery

Unread post by m270mlrs2 » February 10th, 2020, 1:13 pm

Good morning I think I need new batteries for my M151a2. The two in it are Everstart lawn and garden 12 volt batteries and are smaller than the hold down brackets. They worked ok for a while but do hold a charge anymore. Any suggestions for a decent battery. I was looking at the Yellow top Optima but I think they are a little expensive but may be worth it. Thanks for any suggestions

Have been using the Yellow Tops for several years in M151A2 with success. Minimal checking, hold charge for extended period and no wet cell issues. Found my batteries at local Interstate Battery Distributor at discount. Relabeled as "Econo" for about $80. Use the larger size for generators. Have used group 52 size and one for Prius ( which has pencil terminal posts). Local CR may also be a possible source over time. IMHO they (or Red Top ) are worth added cost.

51R, Most Honda's from the 80's-through at least the mid 2000's. They are just a hair smaller but I used some thin wood to pad them out and if you are careful the hold down will do the job but it would be better to take the hold down and cut it down just a little bit and weld it back together and re coat it with the stuff for tool handles, I can't remember the name of it, I am tired. Once that is done you would never know the hold down was modified. Then you wouldn't need any padding either.

Great SCOTT!

Here's a picture of my M151A2 after I hooked up two new batteries, red-to-black and black-to-red, as I normally do. Don't ask. It's technical... and I can't explain it to you.

Now, I know what you're thinking. You're thinking that M151A2 looks like a DeLorean. To you, I reply, time is a relative thing. Make the right stop, at the right time, pull a little switcheroo at a certain Ford engineer's work space and voilà...ya got a real good lookin M151A2!

Happily, I can report that I have been able to salvage the flux capacitor....and the cigarette lighter from the ashtray. So, we begin again.

Cheers,
TJ

It's good that you salvaged the Flux Capacitor. I see that they are no longer easily obtainable at O'Reilly Auto Parts

As I recall, George Dickel was the evil intoxicating juice of satan favored by our own illustrious long missing in action member known as "rainman"
