Those old wires...

Unread post by m3a1 » August 8th, 2019, 10:53 am

I was watching a film on youtube and caught an advertisement (I usually skip the advert as quickly as possible) that had a product that is receiving some fairly good reviews. Has anyone tried a product called, BONDIC? It looked like it might be very useful in our hobby.

Cheers,
TJ

Every one of us has seen wires whose insulation is gone where they flex at the base of the connector. I was thinking this might be just the thing to use to get a few more years out of some wiring in poor condition. Thin enough to get in the crevices and then hit it with the UV light. Instant insulation.

Ah, Ok, I did not know what plastic you were thinking about. Yes, that might work. I always used liquid electrical tape, AKA Plasti-dip.

I never had much luck with the plastic-dip stuff. I felt it made a coating well, but a rather thin one. I thought this other stuff might not only coat the wires, but give them some added support at the base of the connectors which is where they chiefly seem to go bad.

Product reviews seemed to be good on the whole, with some occasional complaints regarding the quality of the UV curing light.

Cheers,
TJ
