Hello all, my name is Kyle, this forum has been very helpful to me over the past year and I finally became a member to help and find guidance. I have grown up around military vehicles since I was a kid and I am a military history buff. My grandfather is a Marine and has always had a lot vehicles ranging from early REOs to the 900 series 5tons, his brother flew UH1-Ds in vietnam, my dad was in the army in the 80's and drove M-60s. He always had a M151 that just sat for years that I always wanted to get running. He told me fond memories of driving A2s on base. These factors stated my search for my own. I finally bagged an A2 that was Y cut. I am in the process of trying to bring my dads M151 back from the dead as well. His was rusted out pretty bad but I have hope to one day rebuild it. I am currently restoring my A2 and look forward to learning from you all. Pictures to follow.

So after My compression testing I discovered two head gasket leaks and two exhaust leaks. Took head to local engine shop with literature pulled from TM's. Shop has been in business for 30+ years. The two lower mount bolts for the intake manifold were missing. Threads appeared to be shot. One hole shot on the exhaust manifold bolts and I snapped another. Just waiting for the head to return. In the mean time I am going to clean up the deck, Remove the radiator... speaking of the rad, the two lower mounting bolts have spun free not allowing the lock nuts to be removed easily so once it is removed it is being sent out for a refurb.

Looks like you are diving right into the deep end! Before spending too much on that head I can tell you it is the early light duty head. There are later heavy duty heads out there for sale NOS for probably less than you are going to spend on that old head. Unfortunately it looks like the data plate is a repro. No date of delivery and added numbers to the serial. Ken will probably comment more on that. It is definitely an early AMG A2. I am always a bit fuzzy on the numbering of the early AMGs. But you are going after all of the right parts to get it going so I am looking forward to seeing it on the road soon.
