Army unit id for M416 trailer
I am restoring a couple of M416 trailers.
the rear is labeled 26-I-101F
Any ideas on unit?
I am thinking 26 infantry ? 101 Field artillery.
Any idea about the registration Number?
IE 6F ????
Both of the trailers are from Cape Cod according to the prior owner.
Both have data plates
Made by Stevens first one S/N 10743 Date of delivery 4-67
Second unit S/N 10976 Date of delivery 4/67

The last should be 101FA, so the unit assignment and paint timing look good.As part of ongoing reorganizations, the 1st Battalion, 101st Field Artillery has been part of the 26th Infantry Division Artillery (1975-1993), the 42nd Infantry Division Artillery (1993-2003), the 29th Infantry Division Artillery (2003- 2006?) and the 26th Infantry Brigade Combat Team (2006? - 2009?). Since 2009(?), the battalion has been assigned to the 86th Infantry BCT, and in 2016 the 86th Infantry BCT was reorganized under the 10th Mountain Division as part of the Army's Associated Units Program.[4]

both of these trailers would (if both are ex-US Army and not USMC versions) have had US ARMY Registration numbers beginning with 6U. I can speculate the likely numbers-part of the registration, but this is not an exact science.....

Kind regards....

Re: Army unit id for M416 trailer
Thanks for the response,
To Salt 6: If I understand correctly then the full label should be 256-I-101FA
To Ken (Muttguru): please speculate as to the registration number.
As you can see both trailers were camo. I have removed the peeling paint, sanded the rust away and repainted in 24087.
I have repacked the wheel bearings and greased the trailer at all of the points.
It is not restored but is refreshed to look like it was in active service.
I plan on installing markings from Delta Team Decals and then placing it up for sale.
I will post before and after photos as soon as I am done.
Thanks for the help.

trailer number 10743 estimate would be 6U 1398
trailer number 10976 estimate would be 6U 1631
I take it there was no trace of the original registration numbers on (or sometimes in) the trailers?

Re: Army unit id for M416 trailer
Thanks Ken,
I have looked for any numbers on the sides and on the inside of the top below the handrail. My other trailer has a stenciled number inside. When I get it out from storage I will send you a copy along with a photo of the data plate for your collection.
Thanks for your help.

Most units I remember had FA but after some reading, F would be correct also.Redlight wrote:Thanks for the response,
