What is this prototype?

Unread post by Joe » January 31st, 2019, 10:09 am

Found this pic in my archive files under the name MEEP or JUTT and wanted to get more information on it. This prototype obviously goes back to the very early days of M151 development when looking at the grill and side body cut-out for the door areas. Any ideas????

I am not sure but that may have been the M-151LC version with the solid axles. I notice that one also has a real frame.

I have seen that photo before...likely as not on this site and maybe it was Muttguru who provided it (that would be my first guess).

The importance of it is that it does a great job to illustrate the lineage of the M151 series of truck. The Ford/Willys influence on the design is obvious.

We used to have a member who was from down your way who "built" a 151 LC with a 4.0 Jeep engine and went out and had it clocked at 140 MPH. Said it was "Certified" by a Texas state trooper! This guy was a bit off! If you saw his welding you would be amazed, or should I say amused.

Thanks all for the fine detective work, guys!!!..... I did a search on this site before posting the pic that I had copied for my files but I obviously used the wrong search words...... Close but no cigar...... I really appreciate the G viewtopic link into yesteryear and yes, even I had seen this before. Very interesting......

as far as I remember what I have been reading, the experiment 151 with solid axles was done after the M151A1, before they decided to use the trailing arm set-up of the A2
