M151A1 Project in Ohio $1000

Unread post by Rainman » September 24th, 2008, 5:19 pm

Not mine, but got a call from the owner on Monday that he wants this A1 to move down the road to a new home within the next 4 weeks at the latest. http://akroncanton.craigslist.org/cto/790261272.html He's had interest in it, but no takers yet. The price is down to $1000 and the rotisserie goes with the sale for that price. I drove up yesterday and took a look at it, and it's definatly a project and not for the faint of heart. It's a reweld, and has bare replacement metal on both sides. His brother welded new steel channel underneath so it looks like it has a real frame under it. The rebuild on the engine was "rings and new head gasket". In that large cardboard box is a canvas top and possibly side curtains and doors. Looks like 2 different engines in the pictures, but there is only one engine in the garage. To get it someone is going to have to move fast. I'd be willing to help out if needed to load it or what ever. Pictures on the top of the page are recent and it's a rolling tub, the lower pics on the spinner were taken previously. This listing is still showing at the address given, but no longer valid on a craigslist search. So one more time...

My other observations... the delivery date is 11-67 on the data plate, and it has a clear Ohio title listed as "homemade". It is a Ford and the BUDD plate and all data plates are in place. When I say there is metal welded underneath, I'm talkin major steel. I saw a steel channel welded as maybe a center cross member side to side, the size of a 2'X4". If I can get back up there I'll have a camera with me. He assures me that all of the original metal removed has been saved with the footman loops to be moved to the new steel. Area around the pintle is roughed in as shown. There is a gap on the driver side replacement panel as seen and the rocker is all replaced with square channel as well. Looks like it would withstand being high centered on rocks easily. NOT a candidate for a purist restoration! Comes with a not yet installed ROPS kit and a spare carb.

Hey TX,

Nope, sorry no other pictures are currently available. They were posted on flicker.com I think, but have a phone number of the seller and am trying to contact him to get an internet address for the pictures. I knew the listing search on craigslist had slipped away, but now the direct link too has vanished. I'll do my best to get something for you to look at. Might take a couple of days as I have a show to hit tonight and an event to display at over the weekend. The pictures displayed at the web address were hi-resolution detailed photos that showed the good, the bad, and the ugly of it all. Wish Muttvet could have grabbed it to do his off road jumping, and rock crawling, it was a gr8 candidate for that! I'll do my best to locate something ASAP for ya to see. Oh yeah, it had a re-cored radiator too!

New address for the pictures... http://cleveland.craigslist.org/cto/851458984.html

Spoke to Joe this evening and he had it relisted. Mention "Rainman" and he'll take $1000. The pictures can be zoomed by clicking on the pic and above the next picture will be a button to see it full size. Also have a line on another M416 trailer in Ashtabula, Ohio. More on that as it develops.

Hey HTN,

The old trailer that I finished the restoration on, not the one I had in Hallsville. The Hallsville one is not even started yet! Well. I have the paint, picked up for me at Gilbert. Many thanks to John & Kevin! :D

UPDATE: This jeep is now listed on ebay for $1090 opening bid. Haven't talked to him since the listing, but the first bid will knock out the $1000 price no doubt.

Thanks for the congratulations guys. If I'd won it at an MV show it would be a much bigger deal, but I was in competition with Model A's, T-buckets, Mustangs of all ages, hot rods, and a 1952 military ambulance. Still I will display it proudly!

As for the parts M-11, the project jeep does have some of those. I really liked the rotisserie and the recore radiator, but it seems complete with one of everything and the extra carb. We'll see if he gets his opening bid or an offer from here. After that it becomes "scrap value" I suppose. With the extra steel and rotisserie, my guess is 3000 lbs.
