1949 Bantam T3-C for sale

Unread post by m3a1 » October 20th, 2019, 12:03 pm

1949 Bantam T3-C trailer. Comes with a clear Texas title. Title assigned with a Texas Reassigned Number (original vin was gone). Currently licensed. Located in Boerne, Texas. This is a civilian Bantam "jeep" trailer rated for 1/4 ton. Its closest military counterpart would be the M100 trailer. I brought this trailer back to a level that I consider 100% useable and reliable. I never intended it to be a showpiece. Bearings were cleaned, inspected and repacked. It is ready to travel and go to work.

Reproduction VIN plate seen in the photos will be removed as it presently has the wrong number on it. Texas reassigned number is stamped into the tongue as proscribed by Texas law.

(Reeling machine is not included)

At this time, this trailer is being offered only to members of this forum. PM me with any questions/offers you might have. Reasonable offers will be given full consideration. If you're looking for something you can buy cheap and flip, forget it....this trailer ain't it.

Underside remains unpainted and in its original 'as-found condition' with examples of the original civilian green paint still there.

Every departure I have made from what would be considered to be the original design can be easily reversed.

Changes I have made are -
Changed to slightly larger tires. Correct size would be like those found on WWII Jeeps.
The addition of grab handles at the front corners (very useful in moving it around by hand)
Adaptation of the tailgate to a tipper style gate allowing contents to be dumped by hand (these trailers are very finely balanced over the axle)
Tail gate was rebuilt using original panel
Tail gate can be removed entirely by taking off two bolts.
Adaptation of the drawbar to allow for towing with a lunette or with a standard ball hitch (comes equipped for either one)
Changed the release handle on the landing leg to a 'T' rather than an 'L' to achieve a straighter pull (L-shaped ones tend to bend)
Excised the lower corners of the tail light panel
Trailer no longer has tail lights, or wiring. I use magnetic tail lights on this trailer.
LeakSeal coating on the bed floor and seams.

Original acquisition photos of this trailer and my postings regarding how it was brought back to life can be found here -

You did a great job describing the trailer but forgot to mention an asking price. Unless its one of those ads that if you have to ask for the price you probably can't afford it.

I grew up in a time when most men valued their reputation far more than they seem to do today.

If you asked the fellows who HAVE bought from me I think you will find I'm exceptionally fair and flexible and I always make full disclosure.

I even told the last guy he was offering me way too much....and took less than his offer.

I never, EVER ask for a ridiculous price. I give fair value at a reasonable price when I'm selling and I expect the same when I'm buying.

Sometimes I even give stuff away.....after sandblasting it, priming it, and painting it.

No I did not forget to quote a price. The guy who is serious about owning it will make an offer.

Cheers,
TJ
