FS in the United Kingdom -not mine

Unread post by Challenger2 » February 13th, 2019, 2:40 pm

This is currently for sale on a UK-based website and advertised as a 1968 M151A2. Has an interesting back story as apparently imported from the US to be lifted by helicopter - for Vietnam War re-enactments?

Does the backstory include the fact that there is no such thing as a 1968 A2? Aftermarket, restamped data plate. And judging from the extremely deformed right side cowl and hood I would say it was rolled. looks like a lot of bondo on that side. Can't get a good look at the other side. It has had the ROPS removed. No under body pics. That is a LOT of money for what I am seeing.
And the gas can is backwards.

Hi guys,
I knew it would get a reaction and I was interested to see if the forum agreed with my own view on what was being offered (albeit only from the photos and description). That price, steep even for the UK, would work out at around US $17,900 which I guess would get you a very tidy M151 A2 in the States.

re that data plate. My own 76-77 A2 (also ex-ROPS) is missing its plate. Am I right in thinking the AMG data plates came with the AM General logo (and trademark) embossed?

And, yes the body does look a bit wobbly. Perhaps they really did do a test drop from a helicopter???

More likely a rollover. A test drop from a helo would have not have been a "DROP" or otherwise you would be looking at a rather small pile of scrap metal. They were "transported" by helicopter, not "dropped".

Wasn't that last picture a former member of this site? Forgot his name but he put lockers on the 151 and a few other mods
