Bouncing gauges

I noticed a while ago that the needles on my gauges on my A-1 had started bouncing, and when I turned on the turned on the turn signals they would flutter. When i would pull outward on the top light switch lever they would stabilize. I mentioned it to a friend Everett at the Weare show ,and he said ...

151 A-1 Slave Recepticle

My A-1 Does not have a slave receptacle and i believe they were all built without them. I intend to install one and was wondering if there was a different location allocated for the A-1 or would it have originally been installed in the same location as on an A-2.

Accelerator Pump Check Valve

While going through my Bendix carb i noticed the check valve behind the accelerator pump diaphragm was severely corroded so i went to my rebuild kits and found two styles. One that has a small protrusion on the check valve that the diaphragm could push against thereby opening it. It protrudes about ...

Differential Woes

After reading the previous post about the diffs i went out to the shop to examine the ones i have on the shelf. On an early one with the number 8 at the start of the number on it, i believe this is indicative of the early series diffs as i think the A-2's have diffs with a 11 at the start of the num...

Re: Vacuum Pump Rehab

I have had good luck with a firm called Then and Now Automotive, Upon calling them ,you give them the 4 digit number on the flange of the vacuum pump that bolts to the block. The seal I used is from one of many AC fuel/vacuum partial rebuild kits i have laying around as they are similar from AC pump...

Vacuum Pump Rehab

Had a vacuum pump on the shelf to install on an A-1 block and thought I would rebuild it and found it was in good condition except for the seal around the actuator rod that is pumped by the arm to the cam. That seal is the same as on many AC fuel and vacuum pumps of the same manufacture. I also foun...

Re: Starter Differences

So Horst, I see what you mean about the bendix extends when turned by hand but doesn't retract, my question to you is, when the motor starts and spins the starter at high rpm's, the bendix then retracts to a length that clears the ring gear?

Starter Differences

When I was installing a starter in my rebuilt engine I noticed that the bendix engaged the flywheel when i turned it over by hand. Apparently there are some differences in bendix drives as i have two styles. My question is is the bell housing identical between the a1 and a2? Is there a difference in...
