Re: exchange diffs

You should also check to make sure the rear motor mounts have not compressed to the point that the transmission is resting on the crossmember as that will transmit a lot of noise also. Happened to me....changed to new motor and tranny mounts and quieted things quite a bit.

Re: exchange diffs

As an experiment i put new seals in the diffs on my a-1 and re installed the yokes with new sealant and rubber mounted the diffs with heavy rubber 3/8" thick above the diff and a heavy rubber washer above the mounting nut and steel washer so the diffs were sandwiched in. I feel it made quite a diffe...

Fording Kit Adaptation

I recently acquired a partial fording kit that is for an a-2 but was wondering is there any reason i cant use it on an a-1? Is the reason for the line that is run to the master cylinder to put vacuum or pressure in it? Does the operation of the fording valve put pressure or vacuum to this location? ...

Solder on Coil Contacts

I have noticed on some coils that there is solder on the ends of the screwed connections where the plus and minus contacts attach and was wondering why it was there and what its purpose is. Does it indicate a higher quality of manufacture. I have noticed it on some U.S. made coils and some foreign m...

Trans Seal Removal

Like many of you I have struggled to change some of the transmission seals, Even with a seal puller "which doesn't seem to work too well" I still deform the outer ring of the seal to get it out by carefully driving a punch or awl around the perimeter of the seal. I tried a new method of taking a 1 i...

Additional rear axle

I am toying with the idea of building a dune buggy using all mutt parts and was wondering if i made it 6 wheel drive with the addition of another mutt differential, would the rearmost axle turn in the correct direction being driven by the axle in front of it?

Oil Pressure Safety Switch Contamination

I was recently given an A-1 engine/tranny combo and have started the rehab process and noticed that when i removed the oil safety switch some white powder came out of one of the ports...approximately about thimble full, so i used air pressure to finish blowing it out. My question is does anyone have...
