My 62 Ford Mutt
I finally got the pics uploaded. I picked this up a little over a month ago. It had belonged to a good friend of mine that passed away in 2014. His widow finally decided to sell it and gave me first right of refusal. I did not refuse!!
The day I brought it home
First little excursion. The weather was unseasonably warm here that day.
I got the markings stenciled on and decals applied today.

I can hardly wait for the weather to warm up a little!!

looking good!
That homemade antenna mount might need to go. How does the engine bay and the underside of the body look like?

I think that is an early version of an AB-15 mount. I have one of them somewhere somewhere around here. You didn't see the inside of the shed with all of the radios and the motorcycle in it when you were here Horst.

That is a great looking A1, you don't find them in that shape anymore, the second pic reminds me of the tv commercial with the dogs driving, I don't think it's a 62 model, you can run the numbers with Ken(muttguru), he can date it for you.
Re: My 62 Ford Mutt
It is an A1 so that would put it at a 64 or later. The hood star should have been on the rear part of the hood but who cares? It is yours and it looks real good.

An early mount. I've seen them from time to time while looking at old pics on the net. There is one that has been on ebay for a good while...

Re: My 62 Ford Mutt
The placement of the star on the hood didn't seem right to me either, but after many hours of searching the net for photos of 151's in Vietnam, I decided that that was the correct location for the time period I was wanting to represent.rickf wrote:It is an A1 so that would put it at a 64 or later. Re: My 62 Ford Mutt
That's the date on the data plate as well as the title, so that's what it's gotta be as far as DMV is concerned. Here is a pic of the BUDD number. It's a little tough to read the last digit. The number is 68991Hambone wrote:That is a great looking A1, you don't find them in that shape anymore, the second pic reminds me of the tv commercial with the dogs driving, I don't think it's a 62 model, you can run the numbers with Ken(muttguru), he can date it for you.

Both areas look GREAT! This vehicle was stored indoors since 1990 at least. It is uncut and pretty much rust free.Horst wrote:looking good!

Re: My 62 Ford Mutt
Well, you got me on the star! Can't beat real life pics. That underneath is amazing! And it is all the original metal also, no underbody repair kit. I only see the beginnings of rust in the front cross member which is usually completely gone on these. I am hoping Ken will see this and he can tell you the exact year right down to the month with that BUDD tag. Don't worry, I have a 67 data plate and title on my 64 so I know what you mean. You take what you get when it comes to that but when people ask me I tell them the right year.

Re: My 62 Ford Mutt
Thanks for all the replies. I still have a few things that I need to do to bring it to the condition I want. The exhaust system is not GI. It was installed by a muffler shop sometime in it's life. It is routed correctly, but it's not correct.
I also want to replace the antenna mount that is on it with one for a matching base so I can mount either a 524 or a PRC 77/AN-2060 combination (can't remember the proper nomenclature for that combo at the moment).
One of the other beautiful things about this MUTT acquisition is the amount of parts that came with it. I ended up with 3 engines, 5 transmissions, 2 differentials, a couple of starters, fuel tanks (with electric fuel pumps), distributors, carbs, hood, grille, plus a bunch of other seals and such.

Re: My 62 Ford Mutt
That jeep is a gem, glad you didn't pass on it, is it your first MV?
Re: My 62 Ford Mutt
Not my first. I've had a Dodge WC 62, a 42 GPW, a 43 GPW. All projects that I had to sell before I was able to finish them. I've also got an 85 M1010 ambulance that I drive on a fairly regular basis. In addition to those, I've got 2 M416 trailers.
