Rear turn signals.......Modifications
Advice needed....
If you look at my recent post in "General Discussion" about UK MOT rules and the reply from George (svramselaar) If you look what he has done to his A2 (clearer on the trailer light)
Sent George a PM for clarification but as he has not yet replied.
Thought I'd bounce it around here under Technical as it could benefit anyone with the same problem in the future.
If I am not mistaken, he has swapped the brake and the indicator cables at the connectors made the top red part a combined brake and rear light and then cut the lower part of the front to combine the two existing openings and inserted an amber reflector. Surely this would work as all the connectors are the same as are the bulbs voltage/wattage etc, if this works it has to be the simplest of solutions, you'd just need to get two spare composite light covers to revert back to the original configuration and swap the wires back.
Let me know your thoughts and technical comments on the feasibility of doing this.

hello
sorry personal E mails i don t see them always
i have done the next
take the not hot wire from the stop switch
put a new wire from the switch to the nr 23 wire tad sits behind the dash to the rear
now inter chance the nrs 23 and 22-460 at the right rear back light
and interchange nrs 23 and 22-461 at the left rear back light
put in the rear blackout stop 21 watt bulbs
now you have
two 5 watt rear lights (red lens)
two 21 watt stoplights (red lens)
21 watt left and right indicator (yellow lens )
the wiring is still original (you can go back )
only the rear lights lenses are altered

what did you do with the disconnected wire from the stoplight? Did you tape it up or use a plastic tie?
ps...Did you get the Sugga photos I sent you?

thanks for the info but as I am not such a bright spark (excuse the pun) when it comes to vehicle electronics I'll need to a bit more clarification.
So if I understand correctly, you unplug #75 from the switch, you unplug #23 connector which is also behind the dash somewhere (am I correct..?)
Then the new cable is plugged in to the vacant #23 connector and then to the vacant connector on the switch..??
Is the #23 connector easy to locate under the dash..???
BTW - from which vehicle did you take the amber reflectors..???

Where's the best place to source these bulbs in the UK, are they pretty standard stuff from the local motor parts store..???svramselaar wrote: put in the rear blackout stop 21 watt bulbs

Philip,
You can buy 24V bulbs in the UK easily, most trucks and commercial vehicles are 24v. I get mine from a local commercial vehicle spares place, but you can also get them cheap on ebay. Are you coming to Beltring?

Re: Rear turn signals.......Modifications
hello
you are right
the new wire put stop lights on nr 23
nr 23 low in the rear lights
the wire and bulb 22-460 at the right side and wire 22-461 on the left side
are behind the red lens so they must at wire 23 to get two red stoplights
the wire`s 23 at the rear lights are behind your new yellow lens and 21watt bulbs
so they must at the 22-460 and 22-461 for the directional lights
the connectors are on the left side behind the dash plate
the are 5 connectors from the front to the rear harness (the rear harness go in the steel frame to the back )
ken
i get to you on the telephone

Re: Rear turn signals.......Modifications
Ah, so for me it is even easier if I read this correctly. I have left the rear lights as all red so there is no need to swap 23 and 22-460/22-461 as it will all work as before.
HOWEVER I have a trailer with red stop light and yellow turn lights. To make that work without turning on the turn lights at the same time as the brake lights I simply make the change to 23 from the stop light switch and feed trailer connector F (23) to the trailer brake lights.
Have I got that correct??

Re: Rear turn signals.......Modifications
hi
you have a other problem
you want to work the MUTT with combined stop direction lights and the trailer with seperated lights
the easyest way
at the directional switch are the wire`s 22 =/ 460=/461
make a T connection from all three wire`s take them to the receptacle assy
the new wire 22 is the stoplights
the new wire 460 is the right direction light
the new wire 461 is the left direction light

Re: Rear turn signals.......Modifications
Thanks for that. I can see why they defer to you on things electrical with the MUTT!
Will get it done over the next few days and report back - been sitting around 38C here the last few days and forecast 33C the rest of the week so it is not much fun working in the shed right now
Regards
Howard

Hi,
what if you have both, M416 (combined signals) AND civilian (seperated red/amber signals) trailer?
Any chance to get this working?
