Ken, What do the numbers on the tag tell you? Do they correlate with the dataplate?

Doug....and Rick,
from the first description of Doug's vehicle, I thought that the body was a Ford, early 3rd contract, which would have followed on from the Willys-Kaiser era. The existence of the BUDD plate would usually mean that the body was Ford and the Kaiser dash plate was from another vehicle. So far, so good. But I had some vague doubts and that's why I asked for the pictures.

Having seen those pictures, what I reckon now is that the Kaiser dash plate could be the original plate for this body tub and that the BUDD plate has been removed from an early Ford and transplanted onto this tub (that's the reason it has been riveted to the firewall, not spot-welded like it should be).
I'd further speculate that whoever had the vehicle earlier, couldn't find the Fruehauf tag on the frame-rail (probably peeled or blasted off by error), then realised that there should be a body-tag in order to get a title, and that's how the BUDD tag came to be attached.

Nevertheless, if it enabled another M151 to get a title and live again..... so be it. But you can see why the asking about the "correctness" of a mutt can sometimes open up a real can of worms.....and produce little in the way of positive outcomes.
Ken
Kind regards....
Ken

Interesting and makes perfect sense! So I can safely (above 80 percent-ish) consider it a straight M151? It would only matter to hard-core enthusiasts like us anyway. Thank you so much for your help!

Doug....not yet !!! The only picture of the vehicle I've seen so far is the one with the Christmas tree trailer attached. We are all assuming that it's an early body but if someone went to the trouble of transplanting an early body tag, who knows what else may be wrong?
Are you sure you want to keep digging? If you are, can you post some pics including:-
- front fenders around the turn signals (if fitted);
- rear body panel (around tail-light area on pass side as well as rear driver's side where the gas-can straps attach;
- side panel (passenger side - forward of rear wheel);
- rear suspension arms;
- front steering knuckles;

oh....and a photo of the floor drain holes in the front footwells !

That should help.

Uh-Oh, The can of worms fell over, Quick, catch them. Seriously though Doug, this is a good one to do all of the research you can on it. I am particularly interested since I have a 64 Ford which is a transition year and I had parts from both the straight and the A1 on it.

Absolutely! The previous owner was a SFC in the army and had them do all sorts of upgrades on it. The motor is dated 1971 and I found lots of Bondo when I stripped off the cammo paint. Here are a few photos I took right after I repainted it. I will take more detailed photos later.
