Re: '77 A2 - My first project
Pretty much all the NAPA stores I contacted gave me the same line. They do not stock the asphalt coated fuel/break line loom, but would order a 250' roll if I wanted it. NAPA does not have an on line order program that works, so I took Fil's advice and ordered it out of PA.

Finished the fuel tank. Came out pretty good. I still have to secure the lines, but I think it cam out looking pretty good. Took two tries to get the larger vent line from there to the firewall. I'm working on the wiring harness now.

Very nice! Looks better than mine did, luckily the owner wanted functional and not NOS. Those bends on top of the tank are a bear.

Re: '77 A2 - My first project
Frenchman... I bought the RivRab kit for both the brakes and the fuel tank. The brake kit was great. The fuel line kit did not have the tank topside vent lines. I had to make those. Also, it did not have the larger (5/16") vent line going to the firewall. I had to make that as well. The other lines were good, but required some adjustment in hitting the fittings on the top of the tank. As Rickf mentioned, those bends are a "bear". Fortunately, the guys in the garage I'm working at have a complete tubing kit, so making up the parts was only slowed by a short learning curve.
I'm trying to figure out if there is some way to keep moisture from getting into the loom fabric around the lines. I'm sure those covers are designed specifically to hold moisture and rot out the lines!!!!
Merry Christmas, all. I'll spend my day playing with the new wiring harnesses and bolting on parts. If anyone knows where I can get a bag of the rubber boots for the male electric connectors, let me know.
Also, I'm having a head light issue with my encore. Check out my post there if you have some experience with headlights blowing out every three days.

You could spray the fabric with Scotch Guard, that will keep the water from penetrating. Now if it gets in from an end then you have a problem because the Scotch Guard will also prevent it from evaporating. I had an old drill instructor tell me they used to spray the insides of their shirts so you never saw them sweat. I wondered where the sweat went, did they spray their pants too?

Re: '77 A2 - My first project
Is there a cross reference for the fasteners? The parts books show the MS numbers, and by the size hole, I can figure out the size, but the type and thread are what??? Example: page 4-179 of TM 20-1-1 shows item 8. Is there a cross reference that tells me the stud type, length, and thread? I have these parts, so please don't offer the specifics. I'm just wondering if there is a cross reference between "Bolt, square neck, p/n MS35751-44" and the common discription of the fastener?

Re: '77 A2 - My first project
OK..... celebration, followed by a self boot in the arse.
I finished rebuilding the engine, and have it all ready to go. So, Saturday, we slid it smoothy in place and bolted it down. That was the celebration. I mentioned it to Fil, who promptly called to ask if I had checked the tranny. I had not, since the guy I bought it from said it was good. I won't make that mistake again! I followed Fil's suggestion and pulled the top cover. Now I have a transmission to rebuild. CRAP!!!!
